| 3-day clinical course
Day 1 (Friday– 09:30 – 17:00)
History taking/ Communication skills and ethics
(Clinical Skills Building, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, CF72 8XR)
Each group of six candidates will be interviewed at 10 separate stations, for 35 minutes/station. There will be 5 history-taking stations with role-play, 4 communication skills & ethics stations, and 1 medico-legal station involving actors and feedback.
Days 2/3 (Saturday 09:30
– 17:00 and Sunday 09:30 – 12:45)
Clinical teaching (Out-patient Dept, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, CF72 8XR)
There is a total of 15 clinical examination stations with an average of 4-5 patients/station, each led by a lecturer for 35 minutes. Candidates will be in groups of 6 who will be supervised and corrected when examining. There will be time for discussing how to approach particular cases and the new ‘objective’ style of marking. The specialist stations include dermatology, abdominal, endocrine and eyes, neurology, rheumatology, cardiology and respiratory medicine. There is opportunity examine all the patients with candidates being picked in turn to examine under scrutiny.
Day 3 (Sunday 13:45 –
17:00)
Mock examination (Out-patient Dept, Royal Glamorgan Hospital, CF72 8XR)
On the Sunday afternoon each candidate will undergo a formal mock examination involving 5 stations and will receive written feedback of their performance.
